Addressing Anti-Blackness and Violence

[Image description: Black background with white lettering that says “some are posting on social media some are protesting in the streets some are donating silently some are educating themselves some are having tough conversations with friends & family  a revolution has many lanes — be kind to yourself and to others who are traveling in the same direction  just keep your foot on the gas”.]

We stand in solidarity with all uprisings and protests against the police state and state sanctioned violence and murders. The deaths of George Floyd, Breonna Taylor, Tony McDade, Ahmaud Arbery and countless others DEMAND justice. We encourage our communities to focus our effort on bringing about justice for Black lives, as well as take time for community self reflection in our efforts for change. Black Lives Matter. Stop Killing Black People. Defund the Police.

We have decided to postpone our broad virtual community gathering originally scheduled for Saturday, June 13th. We are encouraging folks to engage in a variety of ways as they are all valuable. Protest, donate to bail funds and Black-led orgs doing the work every day, offer food and transportation, sign petitions, advocate elected officials, have those conversations with family and friends.

Many folks have been doing this work for a long time, and for others it’s with a new awakening. Keep your foot on the gas, we have a lot of work to do and we are just getting started.

I have protested with voice, my signs, will continue to protest at ballot box ( to me the most important place) and stand by my sisters & brothers of color!
I truly hope that this country heeds the messages brought to light! We’ve been at this place b4, while I think this was the breaking point for all Americans, I feel the white population from all corners of the country have woke up! I am not only surprised but encouraged that the outrage reached so many! Maybe this time they’ll do it right!
If we can defund the police depts, we can use that money for better education, to enhance jobs, help with daycare, provide better benefits, provide equal housing, provide after school programs that have been taken away, improve wages, tackle the laws to balance fairness, protocols & protections of basic rights that should apply to ALL ppl not just white ppl etc! Its a start…BLACK LIVES MATTER!!!
